Woman Killed After Losing Control Of Car On Route 8, Police Say

Sherry L. Baldwin, of Winsted, was killed around 12:50 p.m., Thursday, May 9, on Route 8 in Torrington, said the Connecticut State Police.

According to state police, Baldwin was driving her 1998 Subaru Impreza northbound on Route 8 north of Exit 46, when she swerves to the left for an unknown reason, crossing into the left shoulder.

The vehicle then swerved back to the right, crossing three lanes and driving off the right side of the road, and colliding with a speed limit sign, state police said.

After hitting the sign, the vehicle continued off the ride side, traveled up a bank and rolled over coming to a final rest in the right lane and shoulder on its right side, police added.

Baldwin, who was not wearing a seatbelt, according to the crash report, was ejected from the vehicle and sustained fatal traumatic injuries.  

The crash is still under investigation.
